Plucked is a novella length paranormal romance book by author Vera Valentine. The 2 main romantic characters are Cara Pierce (a human woman) and Jax (a luctus / grief demon).
This story originally appeared in the Monsters in Love 2: Lost in the Dark anthology, published in September of 2022. Darker in tone than most of Vera's work, this short story deals with death-related supernaturals, and sets up mythology for a planned future paranormal why choose, Styx and Stones (with different characters).
Content Considerations: Plucked opens at the funeral of the main character’s sibling (passed on from an unnamed terminal disease.) Death, end-of-life care, and grief / mourning are discussed throughout. This story incorporates bedroom proclivities that rhyme with "ink" including praise and percussive (flogging) play. This story also contains attempted SA, murder - both previously alluded as well as on-page - unsanctioned corpse disposal, choking, implied servitude, implied financial fraud, and general skeeviness from a bad guy.
